Hebrew Letter Lamed
Teach #3925 lamad לָמַד meaning to teach, learn, instruct. A primitive root ; properly to goad as a shepherd might prod cattle to perform some action. By implication to teach, discipline, and train (See Deut.4:1). A true and lasting relationship with God and with other believers is built with the heart. A true disciple of the Lord must love Him with all his heart, as seen in the Shema (See Deut.6:4-7).
The lamed sits taller than any of the other letters and represents royalty. It is also considered the heart the the Hebrew alphabet.
heart #3820 lev לֵב meaning inner man, mind, will, heart, understanding. Proverbs 4:4 says, "He taught me and said to me, ‘Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live.’” Rabbi Akiva is said to have noted that the spelling of LAMED can be seen as an acronym for the phrase lev meivin da’at, meaning “a heart that understands knowledge”. The goal of teaching and learning is heart knowledge accompanied by righteous deeds.
Jesus declares that He is the Good Shepherd, who “lays down His life for the sheep.” John 10:11,14-16. God gave us the great commission too! Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
